Will it hold its value?
No. That is not why you buy one.
Laboratory-grown prices follow manufacturing scale and technology. Buy the finished look, the size and the price today—not a resale strategy.
← All answersThe straight answer
Laboratory-grown diamonds are manufactured. When production scales, new stones get cheaper, and the resale value of existing stones follows. Anyone promising otherwise is selling you a mined-diamond story with a laboratory-grown price tag.
Mined diamonds are not always a reliable retail investment either—especially at smaller sizes—but they hold their value better overall, because they carry a scarcity narrative laboratory-grown stones honestly cannot. Larger stones and collector fancy colours, on the other hand, hold their value—and sometimes increase over time. A fancy pink from Argyle, a mine that closed in 2020, is the textbook example.
What you are actually buying
A finished object: the size, the cut, the presence, the occasion it marks and the pleasure of wearing it. That value is delivered in full on day one and every day you wear it.
Nobody asks whether a holiday, a wedding or a great coat will hold its value. Jewellery bought for joy belongs in that column—and the price of admission is now a fraction of what it was.
How DD prices with this in mind
Because DD never charges for rarity, you are not paying for the part you don’t care about—and if you do, you are in the wrong place. The complete-piece price reflects material, making and service—the parts that are real.
If holding value is the goal, DD will say plainly: this is not the product. That honesty is the brand.
